The Toronto Maple Leafs were not able to secure an invite to the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoff party this year, finishing in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a 38-36-8 record.
But the Leafs do have some promising building blocks for the future — including 23-year-old forward Nazem Kadri, a Canadian Muslim of Lebanese descent. In just his second full season with Toronto’s major-league club, the 2009 first-round draft pick was the team’s third-leading scorer with 50 points, racking up 20 goals and 30 assists.
