Edin Dzeko has developed a habit of playing his best futbol in the biggest matches.
The 29-year-old Bosniak Muslim has won championships in the highest leagues in Germany and England, and the seasons in which his teams won it all happen to be the seasons in which Dzeko did some of his best work. The 6-foot-4 forward netted a career-best 36 goals for Wolfsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga in 2008-09, the same season Wolfsburg won its first and only Bundesliga title. Dzeko was eventually dealt to Manchester City in England’s Premier League, where he helped the team to league titles in 2011-12 and 2013-14. For Man City’s most recent championship squad, Dzeko scored 26 goals, the third-best season of his career.
On the international level, Dzeko’s 38 goals in 69 appearances for Bosnia and Herzegovina make him that country’s all-time leading scorer. He is the three-time Bosnian Footballer of the Year.
